Rock & Roll Rescue Squad

The night that started it all off! It launched in the un-salubrious surrounds of Power's Hotel on Kildare Street, Dublin in the summer of 1994. Ireland were doing well in the World Cup and the whole city was on the piss Cue - Strictly Fish and lots of puns about drinking - On the Batter etc! What it did do, and do very well, was offer 3 separate rooms of music driven entertainment - all while taking the piss out of clubbing as the city had become accustomed to.

The dance floor had some of the city's finest DJs playing everything from House to Techno to Ska to Eighties.  The legendary Tonie Walsh kicked things off in style on the opening night, by Djing in a wet suit.  It was down hill from there on in!

Rory Jones started his DJ career in the bar with plenty of bombastic Dancehall sounds.  While, what functioned as the the Hotel's Breakfast Room, became a proper chill out zone.  God they were different days and it was so much fun!  The club ran there for 8 months and then the Hotel was sold and we were gone.

But we returned to the fabulous surrounds of the POD the following June and continued along the same lines with our 3 room extravaganza with regular DJs like Glen Brady DJ Wool, Mick Heaney and  Dandelion gracing the main room. Our fantastic Graphic Designer, Brian Nolan, started his DJ career in the Chocolate Bar effortlessly mixing Joe Dolan tracks with John Barry suites. We had Fish TV being filmed and shown on the big screen with our host , Miss Panti - we had Gingam table cloths every where, much to the annoyance of Mr Reynolds! [Sorry John - we thought it was funny!] It was the most fun we've ever had - the time was right and it all worked so easily!  Ah, those were the days.....
