Nicola Conte, dj and producer from Bari, is a primemover of the Italian acid jazz scene arisen around the Fez, a musical joint venture that in the last decade has produced bands such as Quintetto X and Paolo Achenza Trio. "The Fez Files" compilation and the single "Bossa per due" marked Conte's discographical debut. "Bossa per due" gained enthusiastic approval from djs such as Kruder & Dorfmeister, Rainer Truby, Gilles Peterson, Basement Jaxx, St. Germain, Thievery Corporation. Conte's first LP, "Jet Sounds", issued by Schema Records (probably the most representative italian jazz label), was a great international success, after which the artist was invited to perform as a dj in the best European clubs. The tour touched Japan, Portugal,France, Sweden, Holland, Germany, Russia, Austria, Turkey, Croatia, Hungary and reached its acme with the performance at the Electronica Festival 2001 in Belo Horizonte (Brazil), a major recognition for an artist devoted to Brazilian Bossa Nova.
For his great satisfaction, Nicola Conte was then invited to play at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival 2001, where he performed with his full live set, which boasts the Brazilian singer Rosalia De Souza and some of the most talented italian young jazz musicians, such as Gianluca Petrella (Rava Quintet) and Fabrizio Bosso. Conte has always received a great number of remix requests, which led him to work with Yoshimori Sunahara, Grey Boy, Montefiori Cocktail, Sunaga Experience, De Phazz, Pressure Drop, Lemon Jelly, Jaffa, Dee Jay Punk-Roc, Maxwell Implosion, Soulstance, Truby Trio. In June 2001 the album "Jet Sounds" was issued in the U.S., with the title "Bossa per Due", by ESL Music, the Thievery Corporation personal label. In the same month Nicola Conte carried out a new single with Gianluca Petrella ("New Standards", Schema Records). A stunning wind instrument tune riding over a breathtaking jazz-house groove, "New Standards" figures now in the best djs charts. Conte and Petrella are planning the issue of a new album in 2001. A "Jet Sounds" remix version is expected to come out in September 2001, with tracks reworked by Thievery Corporation, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Chateau Flight, Les Gammas, Nu Spirit Helsinki, Ursula 1000, Karminsky Experience, Dining Rooms.
