Without being aware of it, many of us have a lot to thank Patrick Forge for. Back in the day, he compiled a whole series of compilations for Island Records called 'The Rebirth of Cool'. This series blew many minds as it connected the dots between big stuff we'd all heard of like The Beastie Boys and Tricky and lesser-known acts like Outside and Jhelisa.

This 90's phenomenon kicked off many an inspired young head to start their own 'digging in the crates' session. Take a leaf through most eclectic DJ boxes and you're bound to find a safety copy of a Rebirth compilation nestling in the bag. With twenty top tunes on each that you could never leave the house without at least one. Just as his own jazz musical voyages led him to Brazil, many others followed and Patrick has been key in bringing new and old classics from that beautiful continent of a country to our ears. For that too, even more respect.
