We all have different reasons to love Rainer.
'Everything' by A Forest Mighty Black is just one of
them. A truly sublime track that tells you everything you
need to know about him. You know sometimes the
way folkies like Kittser, Glen or Mundy, sometimes sing
a really quiet song to grab your attention? That's how
'Everything' starts. It builds from a gentle place into an
insistent piece of music, which only elicits one
response. That is to dance. Less can be more. Less
allows you to fill in the gaps yourself. You can dance
between the spaces. A Forest Mighty Black is just one
ickle ickle bit of what Rainer does but you can get the
message from that one group.
He's also the dude who
slapped together those mind-bending 'Glucklich'
Brazilian tip compilations which feature all those cute
Volkswagens on the cover. Volkswagen used to be the
link between Germany and South America.
As the last Beetle rolls off the production line in Mexico
that job now falls to Rainer. He rocks Brazilian with a
euro sensibility. He's also Gilles Peterson's favourite
deck man. What could be wrong with that?
